Chien Li graduated with LL.B (Hons) from Nottingham University, U.K. and was admitted to practise in 2000.

Chien Li began his practice with the Corporate & Commercial and Foreign Investment practice group of Zaid Ibrahim & Co. Subsequently in 2003 he practised with Ghazi & Lim in Penang before joining Foong & Partners in 2004.

He has experience in advising clients on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, corporate exercises such as initial public offerings on Bursa Malaysia, security issues, shareholders disputes and probate matters. He has also been involved in joint land development agreements and other land matters.

He has also advised foreign direct investors on the various aspects of commencing and conducting business operations in Malaysia and assisted in applications for regulatory approvals, permits and licences.

In respect of M&A work, Chien Li recently advised and acted for SATS Ltd in its joint venture with AirAsia Berhad in the business of ground handling involving (i) a share swap arrangement with Ground Team Red Holdings Sdn Bhd (a wholly owned subsidiary of AirAsia Berhad) to sell 80% stake in SATS Ground Services Singapore Pte Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of SATS Ltd) in return for a 11.4% stake in Ground Team Red Holdings Sdn Bhd, and (ii) acquisition by SATS Ltd from AirAsia Berhad a 38.6% stake in Ground Team Red Holdings Sdn Bhd for an aggregate transaction value of SGD119.9 million.

In respect of corporate real estate work, Chien Li recently advised and acted for Super Ace Resources Sdn Bhd, a joint venture vehicle formed by Paramount Corporation Berhad, Lasseters Properties Sdn Bhd and Lasseters Management (M) Sdn Bhd, in the acquisition and development of a hotel building to be managed by the AccorHotels Group for a total consideration of RM44.9 million.
